02The Story
The project started as a kitchen renovation. But when Hykal Homes walked the first floor, they identified underused space and an opportunity to do something more significant. What began as a kitchen update became a complete transformation of the first floor — kitchen, living room, dining room, and guest bathroom — all redesigned as a connected, cohesive space.
03The Before
Where We Started.
The existing kitchen was undersized relative to the home's 5,000 SF footprint. The first floor had underused space that wasn't serving the family's needs. The challenge was to expand the kitchen footprint, integrate new functions, and redesign the surrounding spaces without disrupting the home's overall flow.

04What We Saw
We saw a first floor that wasn't living up to the home. The kitchen was too small, the adjacent spaces were underutilized, and the whole floor lacked the connection and flow that a home this size deserved. The opportunity was to redesign it as a single, unified living environment.
05What We Changed
The 16-Foot Island
The centerpiece of the new kitchen is a 16-foot island — a design decision that transformed the kitchen from a functional room into the social center of the home.
The Kitchen
The kitchen footprint was expanded to accommodate the island, a beverage wall, luxury appliances, and custom cabinetry. Every element was selected and specified as part of the full design scope.
Living Room + Dining Room
The living room and dining room were transformed as part of the first-floor redesign — spaces that now connect to the kitchen and to each other in a way the original layout never allowed.
Guest Bathroom
The guest bathroom was refreshed as part of the first-floor scope — updated to match the quality and character of the transformed spaces around it.
